This post is long and complicated. Maybe consider separating child care coverage from paid maternity leave. But again, as you point out - they are all connected! Thanks for all the great info.

oh yes, it is certainly long and complicated... and yet, I had to cut SO MUCH 😅

I don't think we should ever separate child care and paid leave. The stress related to one feeds into the other in critical ways. In the case of child care laid out above, paid leave is a solution for child care stress, especially as it relates to infant care. I didn't even get into how paid leave beyond maternity leave relates to child care needs post-infancy (e.g. connection to child health issues).

If anything an entire post could explore all the ways these two problems/solutions affect the stress load of the other: exacerbating (when broken) OR mitigating (when fixed).
