after reading the tenure track piece, I just had to come here - I hope that's not too creepy :)
I'm just gonna go full-on nerdy weirdo for a moment, I hope that's ok -
after a few paragraphs, the thought "omg I love her" popped into my head, followed by a voice that said "you should tell her in the comments", followed of course by "what?? are you crazy that's way too weird" - "but being weird is your thing, and maybe it can be the kinda funny quirky weird" so here we are. bad judgment? maybe.
but seriously, I LOVE your back-story. it's the first time I've "met" someone with a kind of similar one to me except on steroids - you made me think that maybe I did strike off field work too soon...
I did some field-work in undergrad, including through a volunteering gig in environmental science in Madagascar, and then a public-health one in Cameroon, but chose to stick with lab environments afterwards cause field data was... so messy. and at the time I thought I preferred the controlled environment that labs offer. and whilst I still think that the controlled environments of labs can offer a lot, I've kind of come to the realisation that the questions I'm most interested in require the messy real-world data.
if I had an inifinite amount of time, I'd totally go and study endocrinology now as well (and maths - for knowing how to analyse messy real-world data properly). don't get me wrong, neuroscience is still my primary love - but I think it would be really helpful to have a deeper understanding about hormones to further my understanding of how they impact the brain & nervous system.
so, if I remember right, you mentioned a collaboration at some point... ;)

Ha! Elina, we should just be nerdy weirdos together because this is totally something I would do too 😄
